Even more from Cahors .........

I am sure they had every herb and spice
you could think of, and many many more!
And a splendid variety of teas too.

LEON GAMBETTA (1838-1882), French statesman,
was born in Cahors on the 2nd of April 1838.

Yes
this really is a donkey with them!!
I thought I was seeing
things at first...

More from Cahors....

As with most French towns,
they are made for strolling
around, trying to take it all in.

Enjoy !!

.................to be continued!!

Wednesday 27 October 2010

We are off to the market .. Cahors Market ...

Cahors is the capital of the Lot department in
South Western France. And about One and half hours
from Cadrieu , where I was staying.

There are markets all over France as
we know, and they all have a their own

But I never could of imagined this market
with the Cathedral looming over it ,
in all its glory.

The market was buzzing!!

It is amazing that they have this market
twice a week, .. so many fantastic choices,
 where do you start??

I didn't get a chance to see more of Cahors,
but what I did see, I was very pleased
with, and I would definitely go back.

I do have more photos of Cahors and the
Cathedral to post ..

Sorry for delay .....

Its half term, and grandchildren
are here. Hubby is back today  from
Korea and the Grand Prix , and
I seem to have a flu bug :-(

Saw these beautiful flowers on
the market in France..

Very cheery for a cold, wet and
miserable day .. !

Hope you are all having a good week and
its not too cold and miserable for you too!

Take care and wrap up warm.
See you soon.

Off to Figeac ....

I took myself on a short bus journey
to this wonderful town.
So much to see, lots of walks, little
lanes to explore and lots of
people watching too!
Figeac is the largest town in this part of the Lot region.  A beautifully restored medieval town and a pretty location on the Célé River, you will have lots to explore. All of Figeac's historic sites are described in a wonderful self-guided walking tour of the old city available from the Tourist Information Office.

I  really loved walking around Figeac, even though I was
my own.  I do prefer having someone to share the
day with , and stopping for a cafe or wine.

More to come .. sorry it has taken me so long!!

Monday 11 October 2010

Now we are off to Cajarc .....

a town
not that far
from Cadrieu.

Cajarc is a
wonderful place to roam ,
and as you will see,
is very old,
and full of windy lanes too.

If you call into the
Tourist Information
they will give you a tour map
in English .

The main road encircles the town with its
selection of shops, restaurants and bars,
but it has an interesting old
town in the centre with a peaceful church square.

Cajarc is a place for walkers,
cyclists and campers too.

After walking around the old town
and also a bit of shopping,
I took myself off for a walk
across the bridge.

A Fabulous few hours
I had!!
Something I have just learnt
whilst googling is ..
that Cajarc was very famous
for growing Saffron in the 18th
century but due to social and cultural
changes brought about by the
French Revolution , led to its decline.
It  is now building a new reputation as the
centre for Quercy saffron because in 1998, Aspec,
an association charged with preserving the heritage of the Cajarc area,
decided to research the history of saffron in the region
and to encourage its revival.

Quercy saffron is now considered to be high quality,
and sells at around £21 a gram.
And the last Saturday of October is
the Saffron Festival....!!

for my lovely postcards.

a little bit of travelling, have fun and laughter,
and blue skies too!!

And Leesa sent me cards
from her great trips to
Where I know she
had a fantastic time,
meeting new friends!

 Leesa sent this one too!!!

So great when my friends and other bloggers
think of me.

My beautiful giveaway prize that I won ....

Before I went on holiday,
I left a comment
on Bonjour Romance blog,
written by Mimi.

Mimi was having a giveaway,
and the prize was so cute, and
just right for someone who travels .

YES I won one of these
beautiful little compact photo frames.

BUT the best part of it was, that I could pick the
prize up myself and meet Mimi..!!

She lives in PARIS.

We met up at The Trocadero ,
had a lovely lunch and lots
of chat, did some walking and
Mimi showed  me around the Passy area!

We had a lovely time , and it was
so great to meet Mimi.

I do hope that you go over to her blog
and read about her latest venture ..
and her stories of little trips around Paris.

I was able to pick it up as
I was in France on holiday still,
and was heading back to Paris
to stay with my friend  Dawn for a few days
then head home!

Thank you Mimi ♥
