Today I met up with new friends
Veronica (from Peru) and
Herve (French/Mexican) ...
Me and Veronica inside the museum
After walking around the
Musuem of Oxford
we headed off to go for lunch.
We set off towards Carfax and this is
considered the centre of the city
The name Carfax
derives from the French "carrefour"
crossroads or quatre face "four face"
Herve said
lets go to the top of
Carfax Tower.
Carfax Tower is is all that remains of the 12th century St Martin's Church and is now
owned by the Oxford City Council.
It was the official City Church of Oxford, where the Mayor and Corporation were expected to worship, between c.1122 and 1896, when the main part of the church was demolished to make more room for traffic in the area.
In 1896, the City Church was moved to All Saints Church in the High Street.

Hope you have enjoyed this NEW view!!
Okay, next time I want to go up there and get photos of the views!
ReplyDeleteHi Leslie .. you will ... I never knew it would be so brilliant . never entered my head to go up there at all ... and luckily not hundreds of steps ... :-) take care Anne xox
DeleteGreat photos Anne. Thanks for the new view :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Cathy .. I have lived here 7 years and not once has I thought about going up ... and I might have some more "New" places too, as Herve works for a tour guide company in Oxford.. He takes them all over for walks .. I haven't been on one either , because I don't think they are right for me ... I would go on a walking tour in Paris or another country though. take care and glad you liked photos. xo
DeleteHow great to meet more people from around the world. Was that church closed when we visited Oxford, I do not remember seeing it? Interesting though that it was your first time up the tower though. Bonne journée, Diane xx
ReplyDeleteAnne, I loved the photos even before you climbed the tower. The close-up details were great. Hope you'll play along with my French meme on Monday. Here’s my Dreaming of France meme
ReplyDeleteYou must be the best guide around in Oxford! With all your experience and a local's point of view, it sounds like a winning combination!
ReplyDeleteHi Anne,
ReplyDeleteNext time that I come to Oxford, we will do that climb together! We had rain the day that I came so it was not as nice a view like that.
Great photos; much enjoyed!
