Outing with friend in Oxford...

On Saturday I met up with my friend Caroline, who is going to show me where all the museums are. So yesterday we went to The Ashmolean Museum. To be very very honest, I don't normally like looking round them, I don't go much into history, but having a friend with me, who I think, thinks on the same lines as me, helped a lot.

The first section we came to was all about Knossos in Crete, this was quite interesting, I could actually relate to this, as my husband and I visited there a few years back. Unfortunately I do not have any photos, either from the holiday or yesterday. Didn't realize until later that you could take photos!! In the museum that is.

The second section was the Ancient Egypt - Dynastic Period. I actually found this a pleasure to walk around, with the jewellery and little pots etc.

These next two items I adore, I just love the rich colours. They are made by Egyptian Faience, which you can read all about in the link.

We then moved on to the Arts, where we had a quick look through,a very small section of the displays and it was very quick as were in real need of a coffee. We will be returning at some point though.

.
Made our way to the covered market, for a well deserved cafe and panini..!!!

  1. It looks like a very interesting museum (love the egyptian pieces). There is an egyptian museum in Torino and when we used to live there, it was one of my favorite places to escape.

Thanks for stopping by Anne. I'm still trying to get past the jet lag but today I was watching a program on the corn circles in Wiltshire and thought how curious. I've never heard of those fields before!

  2. Isn't it amazing how contemporary that milk quartz necklace looks? I'd wear that - it's beautiful.

  4. I'm not usually a fan of museums either, and here I am in Paris, but I've learned that I enjoy them if I only do short visits.

  5. Rowena - it was very interesting, haven't done the whole museum. Not sure that the rest is of interest to me..but will never know unless I go back to see. Hope you are settled back now. Here is a link to Wiltshire corn circles..they have been going for years. http://www.weirdwiltshire.co.uk/cropindex.html

Casalba - the jewellery was amazing, my friend and I would of worn most of it. :-)

Ali - Hi thanks for stopping by..I think Iz would have to be a good deal older..I heard that someone took there 3 or 4 year old the other day, to get them used to the "don't touch" and quietness. I know if it had of been me, I would of screamed to get out of the place.

Linda - Hi yes you are right, short visits are the answer, and the right museum!!

Yes and there you are in Paris.:-) so much to see.

  6. To get the most out of museums, they shouldn't be rushed. I like joining in tours to learn much more about the exhibits.

  7. Hi Anne,
That's a nice outing. I usually enjoy musueums, and if it is a big one like the Asmolean, there's a variety of art.
I also love everyday objects from other time frames. I like to see how people lived.

    See you soon.

  8. My daughter #2 would LOVE that place as she is into that type of history. I think those Egyptian pieces are beautiful, especially that bowl in the middle (2nd to last photo). On my tour in Italy, it had been arranged that we'd go to a particular antropology museum in Orviet. I really wasn't looking forward to it as I don't go in for that sort of thing, but actually found it to be AMAZING! So I'm glad you enjoyed your outing with Caroline.

  10. Hi Ann,
thank you for stopping by my blog. Museums are one of my favorite places to visit, if only because they are beautiful, big and quiet... I like churches for the same reason. I get inspired by every object and art-piece. I am glad you had fun at your outing.
