Rochechouart - France. Dreaming of France.

Another amazing trip out with
Diane and Nigel.

As I said before they took me to fabulous places, so much to see
and do.

Rochechouart is a commune in the Haute-Vienne department
in the Limousin region in west-central France.

Rochechouart  lies in a meteor crater, formed about 214 million years. 6 billion tonnes, 1.5km in diameter, 20km/s. These are the impressive data of the meteorite fallen 4km next to what is today Rochechouart. Nowadays, the town points out this fact and uses it to develop its tourism and its cultural aspect.

Diane particularly wanted to visit the museum, unfortunately it was closed
due to school visits!! Here you would be able to understand more about the Meteorite.

Church Saint-Sauveur.

This roman style church dates from the 11th century although the clocktower was not added until the 15th century. Of particular interest is the spire, added in the 18th century and a twisting octagonal design that is very unusual. Apparently there are over a hundred twisted spires in Europe.

We had a walk around the town

Then to the Chateau, which since 1985 is the Museum of Contemporary art where one can admire the works of Dadaist artist, Raoul Hausmann, and works of international artists from the 1960s to today, such as Giuseppe Penone,
Arte Povera, Christian Boltanski or Tony Cragg.

Fabulous countryside surrounding this town..

The Chateau and the grounds.

Cannot find any information on this wonderful tree statue,
but it is known as

The Lady around The Tree.

Love to see this ...  game of Boules or Petaque

I hope you have enjoyed this little tour, I have more to come, I have to remember it all and it was back in May.!!!

I am sure you will love my pictures though!!
